France and Paraguay became the 20th and 21st nations, respectively, to qualify for next summer’s World Cup soccer finals in Mexico.

Two goals by captain Michel Platini earned the French a 2-0 victory over Yugoslavia in Paris and a spot in the final 24. Paraguay qualified by holding Chile to a 2-2 tie in Chile after winning the first game of their home and away series, 3-0.

In other qualifying games, West Germany tied Czechoslovakia, 2-2, and Sweden defeated Malta, 2-1.
