DETROIT — General Motors Corp. said today it will lay off 1,723 workers in the Michigan cities of Pontiac and Flint because of falling demand for the Buick Regal mid-size car.
The workers--533 at an assembly plant in Pontiac and 1,190 at a body-stamping plant in Flint--were not given recall dates. However, GM expects to call them back next summer, spokeswoman Betsy Hayhow said.
