GM to Cut 1,723 at Buick Plants

Associated Press

General Motors Corp. said today it will lay off 1,723 workers in the Michigan cities of Pontiac and Flint because of falling demand for the Buick Regal mid-size car.

The workers--533 at an assembly plant in Pontiac and 1,190 at a body-stamping plant in Flint--were not given recall dates. However, GM expects to call them back next summer, spokeswoman Betsy Hayhow said.
