Carson : Revenue Suit Postponed

Share

The trial of a suit filed against Carson by Los Angeles County over an estimated $500 million in future tax revenue from a city redevelopment project has been postponed until Dec. 20.

Initially set for Dec. 2, the trial was postponed to allow the county to amend its claims against the city. In its amendment, the county will charge that Mayor Kay Calas had a conflict of interest in voting to approve the redevelopment project because she owns property that could be affected by it, said Deputy County Counsel Paula Snyder.

The county also will charge that Carson should have created a citizens committee to make recommendations on the need for replacement of low- and moderate-income housing before it approved the redevelopment project, Snyder said.

The city disputes both county claims.

Last month, Carson won a similar redevelopment suit filed by the county over an estimated $250 million in future tax revenue. The county has not decided whether to appeal that decision.
