Rancho P.V. : Free New Year’s Eve Rides
The City Council agreed to use $600 of city transportation money to operate PV Transit free of charge from 9:30 p.m. to 3 a.m. on New Year’s Eve to deter drunk driving.
PV Transit is a curb-to-curb van service that shuttles riders in Rancho Palos Verdes, Palos Verdes Estates and Rolling Hills Estates. It is operated by Rancho Palos Verdes.
According to Mayor John McTaggart, who initially opposed the measure, Palos Verdes Estates and Rolling Hills Estates will be asked to participate in the experiment, but if they decline the vans will still operate free in all three cities.
“I don’t think the city has the responsibility to those who get blasted and then need rides,” McTaggart said. But he made the decision unanimous, saying he likes to experiment.
