The state Department of Food and Agriculture has ended its watermelon sticker program. Department Director Clare Berryhill said the program of testing melons for the presence of residues of the pesticide aldicarb has ended with the close of the watermelon season. The department began the testing and placement of stickers on safe melons last July after residues were found on melons from three of 745 fields tested throughout the state. Berryhill said the department will continue routine sampling of melons to assure consumers they are safe.
