Jean Delacour

Because of our own deep admiration and loving memories of Jean Delacour we wish to add a personal footnote to the informative obituary written by Jack Jones (Nov. 2).

We find it interesting to note the fact that Jean, one of the world’s most eminent ornithologists, received his doctorate in botany. He was also an extremely knowledgeable and noted connoisseur and lover of classical music and fine arts.

At his memorial service many of his good friends reminisced about his great ability as a raconteur and how we will miss his great charm and wit.

Happily, Jean was able to enjoy his 95th birthday with a large gathering of friends at a dinner given in his honor on Sept. 26 at the California Club, where he lived. Despite his age he forgot nothing and was a constant source of information on innumerable subjects from the scientific, artistic and social world.

Jean, we will miss you.
