General Dynamics Corp. fired 52 Electronics Division employees this week after a months-long investigation of on-the-job sale and use of drugs and other violations of corporate policy, Jack Isabel, a company spokesman, confirmed Friday.

Isabel said the internal inquiry by the military contractor centered on the division’s Kearny Mesa plant, but the probe was not requested by the Defense Department. He said he was unaware of any arrests resulting from the investigation or of plans to seek charges against the fired employees.

Most of the fired workers were hourly personnel, but some salaried employees lost their jobs also, Isabel said. The Electronics Division has 4,400 employees.
