About 65% of adults in California played the state lottery during its first two weeks, a survey commissioned by the state’s lottery-ticket supplier found. Scientific Games Inc. said the poll of 2,515 adults showed that from Oct. 3-17 the California Lottery had the heaviest participation of any new state lottery on record. More than 80 million tickets were sold during the first week, 21 million of them in the first 24 hours. The survey also found that 81% of respondents correctly identified education as a recipient of lottery funds, 91% said the game is fun, and 62% knew that $100 winners were eligible for bigger prizes.
