Hippo Thought to Be Oldest in U.S. Dies

CINCINNATI —
“Maudie,” a 4,000-pound hippopotamus believed to be the oldest hippo in America, has died at age 40, Cincinnati Zoo officials announced.
“Maudie was almost human,” said former zookeeper George Fingerhut, who worked with her for 20 years. “She came every time I called her, she let me brush her teeth and she loved to be petted around her eyes.”
