Nurse Gets 25 Years for Drug Smuggling

BANGKOK — An Australian nurse who tried to smuggle heroin to Australia in her brassiere has been jailed for 25 years after changing her plea to guilty, Bangkok Criminal Court officials said Friday.
The court handed down its sentence after earlier giving 28-year-old Karen Marie Peisley a life jail term. It reduced the penalty after allowing her to change her plea to guilty, the officials said.
Another Australian, Kerry Anne Morrison, 28, pleaded guilty to the same charges and will be sentenced on Tuesday, the officials said.
The two women were arrested Sept. 27 at Bangkok International Airport with 3.5 pounds of top grade heroin in their brassieres while preparing to board a plane for Sydney, according to the public prosecutor.
