Money-Changing Costs

Your Bargain Corner column offered very good advice. Having recently returned from a thoroughly enjoyable tour through Scandinavia, a few other caveats come to mind. In presenting travelers checks, the banks charged commission per check. I had a substantial number of $20s and was charged $1.20 each, as were other members of out group. Therefor, if you wish to carry travelers checks, better they be in $100s. Better still buy overseas currency here at Deak or some such place where they charge a single commission of $3 for any size transaction. Also, the use of credit cards is practically universal, local currency being needed only in smaller shops and wayside restaurants.

Finally, I’d like to say how much I enjoyed the Traveling in Style magazine. The articles were excellent.
