2 Burial Urns Containing Remains Stolen from Costa Mesa Cemetery

Urns containing the ashes of two people have been stolen from a Costa Mesa cemetery, Costa Mesa police said Tuesday.

Police Sgt. Tim Holbrook said it is the second time in a week that someone has removed urns at Harbor Lawn-Mount Olive Mortuary & Memorial Park.

The thefts, which occur at night, may be connected to Satan worshipers, Holbrook said, although he didn’t rule out the possibility the vandals are merely thieves.

The robbers took the urns after unscrewing marble fasteners that lock small concrete vaults housing the urns. The urns were then removed from the burial vault, Holbrook said.

The vault area is about 200 yards from the mortuary in a grassy area. Holbrook said the stacked vaults are about 12 feet high and continue for 200 feet.
