The Maywood City Council on Tuesday extended a 45-day moratorium on satellite dishes, microwave dishes and solar panels for 10 months and 15 days to give the Planning Commission time to develop permanent zoning regulations.

Linda Dovalis, city planning and development assistant, said the urgency ordinance enacting the moratorium was adopted Oct. 25 after residents complained about a proliferation of dishes and panels that were visible from the street, giving neighborhoods an unsightly appearance.

Because this is the last year the federal government will be giving tax credits for solar energy, she said, “a rush of people” bought the solar panels to beat the deadline.
