Tar Heels Drop Bruins . . . and Vice Versa?

Share

Why can’t the Pac-10 compete with the ACC in basketball?

Each year, the ACC plays the best teams in the country. This type of scheduling yields major network coverage, generates fan interest and revenues for the programs, assures sold-out arenas and allows the conference to recruit nationally.

Now that the Bruins have received a drubbing at Carmichael Auditorium, Coach Walt Hazzard seems to be interested in dropping the Tar Heels. Maybe scheduling three W’s with opening games like St. Mary’s will entice the next Stevie Thompson or John Williams to stay at home, but I doubt it. A better goal for the program might be to try and post an opening game victory over Dean Smith’s North Carolina team on national TV.
