More than 50 people participated in a mock burial of war toys in Santa Monica, charging that such toys promote violence. Plastic rifles, toy soldiers and other war toys were thrown into a makeshift grave and covered with dirt by four children at the War Cannon Memorial in Palisades Park. The gathering was one of several held nationwide to protest the manufacture of war toys. A spokesman for the Los Angeles War Toys Boycott Campaign, which organized the event, said the toys eventually will be sent to the War Toy Disarmament Project in Wells, Vt., where they will be used to make a peace monument.
