Historic Pomona Buildings Readied for Rehabilitation
The 1950s-style metal facades covering five historic buildings in downtown Pomona have been removed at a cost of $13,900 through joint efforts by the city and four property owners.
The buildings, in the 100 block of East 2nd Street, are part of the proposed National Register “Antique” Historic District. With facades removed, the owners and architects will be able to go ahead with plans for comprehensive rehabilitation, according to architect T. Michael Hadley of Irvine.
Hadley created plans for the rehabilitation of the buildings at 135-175 East 2nd St. The structures, all but one about 80 years old, are either vacant or not being used to capacity, according to Bob Clayton, partner in R & R Clayton Consultants Inc., Pomona’s revitalization consultants.
Under the city’s Architectural Design Services Program, participants are provided with conceptual plans for complete rehabilitation of their buildings, Clayton said.
