The works of two great storytellers--Charles Dickens and Daphne du Maurier--are brought to public television this week.

Dickens’ “Bleak House” begins an eight-week run on PBS’ “Masterpiece Theatre” Sunday (8 p.m., Channel 24; 8:15 p.m., Channel 50; 9 p.m., Channel 15). Denholm Elliott and Diana Rigg star in this story about a longstanding legal case in the English court system.

On Thursday, “Mystery!” serves up a four-part dramatization of Du Maurier’s “My Cousin Rachel,” starring Geraldine Chaplin as the contessa whose husband has met an untimely death. It airs at 8 p.m., Channel 50; 9 p.m., Channel 15.

KCET Channel 28 has opted not to run either program this week in favor of other fare for its fund-raising drive. It plans to catch up next week by running the first two installments back-to-back.
