A 9-month-old girl napping in the Burbank home of a baby sitter died Monday when she strangled on the cord of her pacifier, Burbank police reported.

The baby, Nicole Michelle McDyer of Chatsworth, was put in a crib at about 9:30 a.m. in a home in the 1700 block of Brighton Street where she regularly was left for the day while her parents worked, Lt. Jay Farrand said. When the baby sitter, described only as a 42-year-old woman, checked in on the infant about 11 a.m., she was dead, Farrand said.

Officers investigating the incident found that a pacifier was attached to the baby’s neck by a cord, Farrand said. The cord apparently became entangled with a teddy bear and tightened around her neck when she rolled over while sleeping, Farrand said.
