Share

Hermanita (Anita) Harris, 41, was sworn in Tuesday as Inglewood’s city clerk. Harris, the first black to hold the position, will serve the remaining 18 months of the term of Iris Crochet, who resigned in June.

Harris was elected in a landslide victory over her three opponents during a special election last month.

The city clerk maintains the city’s records and archives, compiles City Council agenda and tallies council votes. The full-time position pays $38,832 a year.

Before being elected city clerk, Harris worked as an administrative assistant to Assemblyman Curtis R. Tucker (D-Inglewood) for 10 years in his Inglewood City Hall office.
