Rancho P.V. : Trophy Eludes Hunter
Dante Marrocco, a finalist this year for the Roy E. Weatherby Big Game Trophy, will have to wait at least another year to bag that award.
Thornton N. Snider of Turlock, Calif., edged out the Rancho Palos Verdes hunter at ceremonies at the Beverly Hilton on Tuesday night. The two were among six men nominated for the annual award.
Snider has collected 145 species of game during 122 hunts on six continents, according to a trophy committee spokesman. He also is active in numerous hunting and conservation clubs.
The trophy, considered the Oscar of big game hunting, was established 30 years ago by Weatherby, a South Gate firearms manufacturer. Marrocco, a semi-retired developer, has been nominated for the trophy at least six times.
