A former Teamsters Union official has pleaded guilty to mail fraud and embezzling $180,000 in health and benefit funds from a Long Beach local. Alva Bennett, 51, of Huntington Beach, who entered his pleas before U.S. District Judge Mariana Pfaelzer, faces up to 15 years in prison and a $12,000 fine when sentenced Feb. 3. Bennett served as Teamsters Local 911 secretary-treasurer from 1975 until his resignation in 1983.
