Shuttle Worker Falls to Death

VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. —
An iron worker bolting a platform onto the 285-foot shuttle launch building fell 18 floors to his death in the fourth fatality involving a shuttle worker in less than five years, officials said today.
Carl Reich, 49, of Lompoc, a civilian iron worker, was working on an 18th-floor platform when he fell to the ground at 2:45 p.m. Wednesday.
