Son Shot to Death Near Spot Where Father Was Killed

Share

A Pomona teen-ager was shot and killed outside his home Saturday morning, a few feet from where his father was killed in a drive-by shooting last April, police said.

Andrew Michael Zapien, 19, had just returned home and stepped out of his truck when several shots were fired from a shed about 150 yards away, Sgt. Ralph Fry said. Footprints found on the wet grass near the shed indicate that there may have been more than one gunman involved, he said. Gang conflicts are common in the neighborhood, police said.

Dolores Zapien, the victim’s mother, said her son was not a gang member, but police had no comment on that question.

The young man, who had been shot once in the chest, died shortly after arrival at Pomona Valley Community Hospital, where he was taken by his brother, Raul Zapien Jr., 22.

Raul Zapien Sr., 44, was killed April 14 as he sat on the front porch.
