L.A. Sanctuary Resolution

What a wonderful gift for Thanksgiving Day, to realize that the majority of our City Council do believe in the principles on which our nation was founded! I thought I heard the Pilgrims rejoicing, and the Statue of Liberty smiled and cheered for hours, to know that Los Angeles was a City of Sanctuary.

Let us not be too critical of INS authorities for their muddled testimony. They are under orders to discriminate against refugees from El Salvador and Guatemala; that is why only 2 1/2% of those fleeing those two countries are granted asylum, compared to the average of 31% from all lands.

Let us remember that loyal employees of government, following the example of loyal citizens of Germany during the 1930s and loyal citizens of Russia today, must not obey a higher moral code, but must support rulers who twist the law in whatever manner they wish. Such loyal Americans need our prayers, not our criticism.
