A 36-year-old San Francisco man who slashed the throats of his girlfriend and their infant son was sentenced to 26 years to life in prison after a judge tossed out the jury’s findings of “special circumstances.” With the special circumstances, Gregory Hamilton could have received a life sentence without the possibility of parole. As sentenced by Superior Court Judge Stuart Pollak, Hamilton is now eligible for parole in 18 years. A jury convicted Hamilton of first-degree murder with special circumstances in October for the February slayings of Christine Gapalago, 25, and their baby, Gregory Jr. Hamilton had said he feared the woman planned to leave him.
