Phones Go Out at Huntington Beach
Telephone lines to Huntington Beach City Hall, including non-emergency lines to the Police and Fire departments, were out of service for more than five hours late Tuesday.
A General Telephone official said telephone service was knocked out about 4 p.m. and blamed the problem on a faulty component in the city’s switchboard.
“A new component is en route and the problem will be corrected momentarily,” GTE service manager Marlene Satin said shortly after 5 p.m.
Telephone service was still out at 9 p.m., however. A GTE service supervisor said, “No comment.”
