Cypress : Toxic-Materials Bill Tentatively Approved

Share

The City Council took another step toward joining Irvine and Orange in adopting a hazardous-materials disclosure ordinance when the measure was tentatively approved this week.

The ordinance, which will require companies to list and disclose the hazardous materials they store or handle, was drawn up by City Atty. Mark Huebsch and is based on a similar ordinance passed by the Orange County Board of Supervisors in October.

The council, which unanimously approved the first reading of the measure Monday, has scheduled final action on the ordinance for Jan. 13.

The ordinance will go into effect 30 days after approval. Other cities across the county are in the process of considering similar ordinances to better aid local fire departments to identify hazardous chemicals in case of fire or other emergencies.
