Pacific Island Compact Wins House Approval

WASHINGTON —
The House approved a plan Wednesday to grant limited autonomy to two Pacific island trust territories while allowing the United States to maintain its military presence there.
The measure was approved by voice vote and sent to the Senate, where approval also was expected. The compact applies to the Marshall Islands and the Federated States of Micronesia.
