King Hussein of Jordan has accepted an invitation to visit Syria for the first time since 1979, it was announced Wednesday.

The announcement indicated that a three-month-old effort at reconciliation between Hussein and Syrian President Hafez Assad is gaining strength.

Syrian Premier Abdel-Raouf Kasm announced Hussein’s acceptance at the end of a 27-hour visit here--the first by a Syrian premier in six years.

The two countries issued a joint communique calling for an international peace conference attended by all parties concerned in the Israeli-Arab conflict and by the five permanent members of the U.N. Security Council. Syria previously had sought a conference attended only the parties involved and the United States and Soviet Union. The other three Security Council members are China, France and Britain.
