Santa Monica : New Hours Set for Market

Share

After prolonged debate over the hours of the Wednesday farmers’ market--now open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.--all sides have agreed on a permanent change to an afternoon and evening session, a spokeswoman for the Third Street Development Corp. said.

The current hours will remain in effect until daylight-saving time resumes in April, when the market will be open from 2 to 8 p.m.

Amy Krivis of the corporation said city officials have decided to push for better lighting and other improvements to make the market more attractive in the evenings.

Although farmers who bring in the produce wanted to start early, merchants sought later hours, saying that market patrons tied up parking spaces during the busy lunch hour and cut into their own business.
