Santa Ana : School District OKs 6% Raise for Teachers
Santa Ana Unified School District’s board has approved a 6% pay raise for its teachers this academic year.
District officials said the pay hike increases the minimum teacher’s salary to $20,265 and raises the maximum pay bracket to $38,842.
The pay increase was approved Tuesday night by a 4-1 vote, with board member Mary Pryer opposing the motion. The board also approved on a 4-1 vote, with Pryer casting the opposition vote, a 4% pay raise for its non-teaching (classified) workers.
By a 3-2 vote, with Pryer and James Richards opposing, the board voted a 6% pay raise for its superintendent and other administrators.
The board noted that the classified workers’ contract, in addition to the pay raise, provides for upgrading several positions and adds a new seniority pay bracket.
Sadie Reid was elected president of the school board and James Ward was elected vice president. Both were first elected to the school board in November, 1983. Joan Wilkinson, immediate past president of the school board and a board member since 1979, was elected clerk.
