Accused Navy spy Jerry A. Whitworth pleaded innocent in a four-minute hearing before a federal magistrate in San Francisco to charges in a new indictment that he passed secret code and message data to convicted spymaster John A. Walker Jr. for transmission to the Soviet Union. The new indictment, with seven of its counts carrying life terms, supersedes earlier charges against Whitworth. The trial, with Walker expected to testify against Whitworth, is tentatively set to begin Jan. 13.
