A 15-year-old Lake View Terrace boy who police say called 911 to report that he had just killed his father was arrested on suspicion of murder Thursday night, police said Friday.

The youth, Gabriel Marines, allegedly shot his father, Gabriel Marines Jr., 39, with a .22-caliber rifle about 8:50 p.m. Thursday as the father stood in a downstairs bathroom in the family’s home, said Al Albergate, a spokesman for the district attorney’s office.

Police said the shooting occurred after the boy’s parents had argued. “There had been disputes that had been ongoing,” Detective Robert Muldrew said.

Muldrew said the boy “called the police and indicated something to the effect that he had shot his father and he wanted the police to come and get him.”

Albergate said the father died from two gunshot wounds to the head.

The shooting occurred shortly after the boy’s mother, his 18-year-old sister and his two brothers, ages 6 and 11, left the house in the 11400 block of Garrick Avenue to go shopping, Muldrew said.

Muldrew said the boy was being held in Sylmar Juvenile Hall without bail. He is to be arraigned in Sylmar Juvenile Court on Tuesday, Albergate said.
