Brea : Council Again to Weigh Developing School Site

Share

Plans for office buildings, restaurants and a cinema on two sites near the Brea Mall go back before City Council members tonight.

One plan calls for eight office buildings, six smaller restaurant and retail buildings and an eight-screen cinema on a site now occupied by Brea-Olinda High School. The first building included in the 39-acre development on the northwest corner of Birch Street and State College Boulevard is already under construction and scheduled for completion by January.

The Brea-Olinda Unified School District, which owns the land, will lease the site for development and use the money to build a new high school elsewhere. Council members put the development plans on hold at their Nov. 19 meeting while the school district completed its agreement with the developer.

A second plan before the council tonight calls for an expansion of the Brea Financial Commons, 18 acres on the northeast corner of Birch and State College.

Council members also will consider extending a freeze on development in the downtown area, called Old Brea, after hearing public comment.
