San Marino : Tax Issue Won’t Be on Ballot
The school board this week rescinded a decision to place on the April 8 ballot a special tax measure that voters rejected in November. Board members decided against going back to the voters in April because the election will be held during spring school vacation, when backers of the measure may be away.
A spokesman for the San Marino Unified School District said the board may have a better understanding of its 1986-87 budget needs later in the year, and may revive the ballot measure for another election.
The proposal, which would have levied a special parcel tax of up to $145 a year for four years on every property owner in the district, needed two-thirds voter approval and was rejected by 39.5% of the voters in the Nov. 5 election.
