Actually Hoping for a Travel Hang-Up

Two readers seem to be hung up on hangers. B.G.S. of Rancho Santa Fe is looking for folding travel hangers for skirts and pants, and for folding plastic hangers for drip-dry items; both were available in Germany at one time but evidently never in the United States. And Fran Schaeffer is trying to locate a Hanger Upper, which consists of four thin lines that stretch from one bathroom wall to the other. Can you help our two readers get the hang of it, or will they be tempted to hang one on instead?

Ceiling Decoration

For decorating a ceiling, Meg G. Tuttle of Santa Barbara is looking for embossed circular anaglyphs in various sizes, some about three feet in diameter. She wants the thin ones that are similar to doilies but are made of papier-mache. Nobody in the United States, she was told, makes these decorations, which are reminiscent of the ceilings in European palaces. Can you help before we scrape Tuttle off the nearest ceiling, or should she take the next slow boat to Europe?

The chain on Kate Long’s Medic Alert bracelet frequently snags her clothing, so now she would love to find an inexpensive multicolored enamel band , perhaps one with a flower design on a white background. Can you help with this heartfelt request, or will Long have to brace herself for more tears?

Reader-to-Reader Help Line: Sylvia at (619) 327-3638 would like to locate a Model C-31 Lumitime digital clock with three-inch numbers. That model is evidently no longer made. Please help, so Sylvia won’t think nobody wants to give her the time of day. . . . Max at (213) 936-2340 is trying to find an automatic portable record player that plays 33-, 45- and 78-rpm records and on which 6 to 10 records can be stacked. Donna Hurst of Woodland Hills, who was looking for 1.1-millimeter lead for a magnetized pencil, might still be able to get the lead out. Bill Francis of El Monte says 1.1 millimeter is equivalent to .46 inches, a size that was used in the old-time inexpensive Scripto pencils, which might still be available in some grocery or drugstores. In any case, stationery stores should carry that size, he says.

Gooseneck Mirror

Eva Mayse of Montebello, who was looking for a traveling gooseneck mirror that magnifies on one side, can start packing her bags. According to Mel Schaeffer of Diamond Bar, the catalogue of Lillian Vernon, 510 S. Fulton Ave., Mount Vernon, N.Y. 10550-5067, features, on Page 62, a solid-brass, two-way mirror, flexible gooseneck mirror for $16.98 (plus $3.65 shipping and handling); it comes with a zipper pouch.
