A unit of the Fluor Corp. was awarded a $3-million contract by PPG Industries Inc. to upgrade processing systems at PPG’s specialty chemical manufacturing plant in LaPorte, Texas.

Irvine-based Fluor said its Daniel International Corp. subsidiary will do the work, which is expected to be completed by early 1987. Work began last month.

Fluor, an engineering, construction and natural resources management company, reported a net loss of $633.3 million for its fiscal year ended Oct. 31, compared to net income of $1 million for the prior fiscal year.
