The Diablo Canyon nuclear plant generated the most electricity ever for any Pacific Gas & Electric Co. facility as its second reactor ran at full-steam for the first time, a spokesman said. The total of 2,255 megawatts produced by the $5.6-billion facility was enough to meet about 20% of the utility’s needs for a typical winter day, the spokesman said. The second unit, which is undergoing final testing, was returned to 50% power for maintenance. The second unit should be ready for full operation during the first quarter of 1986.
