Iranian sky marshals foiled an attempt to hijack an Iran Air jetliner on a domestic flight today, killing one of the would-be hijackers in a struggle aboard the plane, Tehran radio reported.

The incident occurred about 2:25 p.m. as the plane flew to Shiraz from Sirri Island in the Persian Gulf. The radio, monitored in Athens, did not say how many hijackers were involved. The radio said that there was a struggle aboard the plane and that one of the hijackers was killed, but it did not say who was involved. None of the passengers or crew was hurt, the radio said.
