Marina del Rey Cityhood Inc. has filed more than 1,700 signatures on petitions that ask the Los Angeles County Local Agency Formation Commission to allow voters to decide if the community should become a city. Supporters said their next step would be to disprove a staff report by the commission staff that predicts the new city would lose nearly $2 million in its first year of operation. The incorporation proposal must be approved by the commission before the Board of Supervisors can schedule an election. Members of the cityhood group said they want to incorporate so they can enact rent control and development restrictions and increase police services.
