North County : Jobs Program Offered for Senior Citizens

Share

The YWCA of North Orange County in Fullerton is offering a job training and placement program for lower-income seniors seeking part-time work.

The Senior Employment Program has two-year training opportunities in local nonprofit organizations for qualified people age 55 and older, according to Beverly Glen, YWCA executive director.

“Our objective is to help seniors brush up on skills so they can be eligible for employment elsewhere,” Glen said.

There are about 56 jobs within the program open to those who meet federal income guidelines, Glen said. The jobs range from kitchen supervisor at a senior citizen center in Orange to library aide at a Fullerton high school to receptionist duties at a museum in La Habra.

Glen said the positions pay above minimum wage and are funded through the area Agency on Aging, a federal office established under Title V--the Older Americans Act.

Those interested in the program may call program director Elizabeth Stember at (714) 871-2504 for more information.
