Pathologists at Dover Air Force Base, Del., sent home for burial the first 26 bodies of Army soldiers who died in a plane crash in Canada that killed 256 people two weeks ago. The 26 caskets, each accompanied by a military escort, were sent home by hearse or airplane. So far, pathologists have identified 55 bodies and notified the victims’ families. Base officials said 29 more bodies will be returned to their hometowns today. A chartered jet carrying eight crew members and 248 soldiers returning from peacekeeping duty in the Middle East crashed on takeoff from Gander Airport in Newfoundland on Dec. 12, killing all aboard.
