Sao Paulo Rations Water

City authorities began rationing water today in Sao Paulo, South America’s largest city with a population of 14 million, following a six-month drought that has severely hit Brazil’s agriculture and caused widespread rural unemployment. The dry spell in Brazil’s southern agricultural belt, which had been accompanied by unusually high temperatures, will cut grain output and force the government to make heavy food imports.
