Sudan’s military rulers, who have promised to restore democracy, said the country’s first general elections in nearly two decades will be held over 12 days starting April 1. The official Sudan News Agency reported that the date was fixed at a joint meeting of the ruling military council, led by Gen. Abdul-Rahman Suwar Dahab, and the interim government of Prime Minister Dafallah Gazouli. Dahab led a coup that ousted longtime President Jaafar Numeiri last April.
