The Region : Atkins Parole Bid Denied

Share

Susan Denise Atkins, the former Charles Manson disciple convicted in the 1969 cult slayings of actress Sharon Tate and seven others, was denied parole for a sixth time and told that she cannot reapply for three years. Joseph Aceto, one of a three-member Board of Prison Terms panel meeting at the California Institution for Women at Frontera, told Atkins that she poses an unreasonable risk and danger to society if released. A psychiatric report concluding that Atkins continues to show strong antisocial traits was cited by the panel in rejecting her bid for freedom. A tearful Atkins had earlier told the board, “I know today I’m a decent human being. . . . I’m not the same drug-crazed young girl that entered this institution.”
