Santa Fe Springs : Fireworks Outlets to Grow

Share

The City Council has decided to increase the number of permits to sell fireworks this year from six to eight and authorized the city manager to hold a lottery to distribute those permits among the 16 organizations that have applied for them.

But the council, concerned that some Santa Fe Springs-based organizations could lose to outside groups in a lottery, is considering changing the permit eligibility rules for 1987. One of the changes being considered is to require that 25% of an organization’s members be city residents before it can apply for a permit, said Cathy Goin, administrative assistant.

The council ordered a staff report on eligibility options. The report is due in mid-February. The city’s fireworks ordinance states that, to be eligible for a sales permit, groups must be nonprofit and have their principal work area in Santa Fe Springs.
