W.Va. Inmates Free Hostages
Rioting inmates freed six hostages today and promised to release the others after Gov. Arch Moore agreed to meet with some of the prisoners to discuss complaints they are being treated like “trash and animals.”
One prisoner died during the 20-hour siege that ended with the negotiated settlement under which half the hostages are to be released later today by the prisoners, with the rest to be freed Friday. The agreement was signed in front of television cameras about 2:45 p.m. by state officials and prisoner representatives.
