No Agreement Yet Reached on Date for Second Summit

WASHINGTON — The date for the next summit meeting between President Reagan and Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev is still open for diplomatic discussions, Administration officials said today.
The Soviets informally have said they would prefer a meeting later than the expected late June date in Washington.
September has been mentioned as an alternative date, but Administration officials are said to be wary of postponing the meeting until fall when the 1986 congressional races will be in full swing.
Both U.S. and Soviet officials have indicated that the next superpower summit meeting will have to be more substantive and produce results in contrast to the get-acquainted Nov. 19-20 “fireside summit” in Geneva.
