Quarter horse jockeys Kenneth Hart and Danny Cardoza will be honored Sunday in a ceremony at the Starting Gate restaurant located at 5052 W. Katella in Cypress.

The pair will be honored for becoming the first jockeys to win 2,000 races at Los Alamitos Race Course.

Hart, 38, was the first to accomplish the feat when he rode Really Dashing to a win Aug. 14. Hart also holds the Los Alamitos record for most wins in one meet (126 at the 1980 summer meet), and is the all-time winning jockey at the course. He is second in stakes wins to jockey Robert Adair.

Ceremonies will begin at 7 p.m. Brad McKinzie of Quarter Horse Weekly magazine will look back on some of the highlights in each rider’s career. Bill Shoemaker will present a plaque to each, along with the riding silks and equipment each had when they won their 2,000th race.
