CHARLOTTE, N.C. —
Doctors today gave a 30-year-old woman her second transplanted heart in less than 24 hours after deciding the first heart was too weak, hospital officials said.
Doctors installed the heart of a 17-year-old accident victim in a seven-hour operation that ended Monday. But they quickly learned the organ was too weak for the unidentified woman. In a nine-hour surgery early today, they implanted the heart of a 25-year-old woman who died in an auto accident. The unidentified recipient was listed in critical condition.
